Deciding week for fate of renewable energy in US
The Senate is expected to achieve the extension of tax credits at the end of this week. The bill will be sent to the House of Representatives. Solar industry hopes that the House of Representatives will vote on legislation to extend tax credits quickly without changes before Friday, otherwise the renewable energy tax credit will expire at the end of December.
What is under the Bill?
The tax credit for wind produced electricity would be extended for one year. The wave and ocean tide projects that generate electricity, would be extended for two years.
Businesses who invest in solar, wind, geothermal and ocean energy equipment would get a 30 percent tax credit for eight more years.
Homeowners would also get a 30 percent tax credit for eight additional years, for the cost of installing solar equipment at their residences. Homeowners could also get a tax credit of up to 10% of the cost of all qualified energy efficiency improvements.
The tax credit for solar energy investment would be extended for 8 years for residential as well as commercial. The $2000 cap would be completely eliminated for residential installations. The extension tax credit could increase investment in billions and create more than a million direct jobs in the construction and installation industries.

Renewable Energy Sources
Solar – The unlimited source of sun’s heat and light can be harnessed in many ways. There are a variety of technologies that have been developed to take advantage of solar energy. Solar power can be used in many ways. Solar energy can be used to generate electricity, to heat water, to light home and businesses and various commercial and industrial uses. Solar system can be used in a large scale application as well as smaller system for home. Solar energy is most popular renewable energy resource. Now days there are many solar powered gadgets available in the market.
Wind – Wind turbine uses wind’s energy to generate electricity. It generates electricity when wind is blowing. Most wind turbines used today are the horizontal-axis type. They have blades like airplane propellers. Wind turbine stands tall and wide to capture more wind.
Biomass – Biomass can be used to generate electricity, produce transportation fuel. Biomass sources are wood, food crops, grassy or woody plants, residues from agriculture or forestry, and the organic component of municipal and industrial wastes. Among all wood is still called major biomass resource.
Geothermal heat - Geothermal energy means energy tapped from the Earth’s heat. It can be used to generate power. Geothermal power sources exist in Chile, Iceland, New Zealand, United States, the Philippines and Italy.
Hydropower – Hydropower is one of many forms of water energy. It can be used to generate electricity. Slow flowing stream of water or wave at sea can produce considerable amount of energy.
Among all these renewable energy resources, solar and wind are widely used by people around the world. The increasing market of solar gadgets is proof of people awareness about renewable energy sources.

Renewable Energy 101
Fossil fuel is nonrenewable energy; it is produced by limited resources like coal, oil and natural gas. In future these resources will become too expensive or it will damage environment which is hard to retrieve. In oppose to this renewable energy resources like solar and wind are constantly available and it will never run out. We have been using renewable energy from a very long time ago. We used wood, (one form of biomass energy) which supplied up to 85-90% of our energy need.
When the word renewable energy comes we picture an image or big wind turbine or large solar panels. It is false assumption that we need large area to generate energy from these sources. The fact is that we can generate the energy to power our home or business in urban areas. We do not need large area to install solar panels or wind turbines. The only thing needed is natural resource of sunlight.
The renewable energy technologies include solar power, wind power, hydroelectricity, micro hydro, biomass and biofuels. These renewable energy technologies are often criticized for being unreliable. It is an urban myth that these technologies will not provide enough electricity to power a typical home. The growing market for solar gadgets and wind technologies is saying truth.
