Renewable Energy Sources

Renewable energy sources provide us flexibility and they can be used in many ways. These resources provide us energy without damaging the environment. With climate change and global warming we have to start using these natural resources to generate electricity.

Solar – The unlimited source of sun’s heat and light can be harnessed in many ways. There are a variety of technologies that have been developed to take advantage of solar energy. Solar power can be used in many ways. Solar energy can be used to generate electricity, to heat water, to light home and businesses and various commercial and industrial uses. Solar system can be used in a large scale application as well as smaller system for home. Solar energy is most popular renewable energy resource. Now days there are many solar powered gadgets available in the market.

Wind – Wind turbine uses wind’s energy to generate electricity. It generates electricity when wind is blowing. Most wind turbines used today are the horizontal-axis type. They have blades like airplane propellers. Wind turbine stands tall and wide to capture more wind.

Biomass – Biomass can be used to generate electricity, produce transportation fuel. Biomass sources are wood, food crops, grassy or woody plants, residues from agriculture or forestry, and the organic component of municipal and industrial wastes. Among all wood is still called major biomass resource.

Geothermal heat - Geothermal energy means energy tapped from the Earth’s heat. It can be used to generate power. Geothermal power sources exist in Chile, Iceland, New Zealand, United States, the Philippines and Italy.

Hydropower – Hydropower is one of many forms of water energy. It can be used to generate electricity. Slow flowing stream of water or wave at sea can produce considerable amount of energy.

Among all these renewable energy resources, solar and wind are widely used by people around the world. The increasing market of solar gadgets is proof of people awareness about renewable energy sources.
