The major exporter of oil and gas, Norway has doubled the spending on renewable energy research. In next year’s national budget, Renewable Energy Development and Research will get double the fund from 10 billions kroner (1.7 billion) to 20 billions kroner (3.4 billion).
Norway produces its own electricity from clean hydroelectric power. The prime minister of Norway told in a conference that renewable energy sources like hydroelectric, wind, solar is needed to reduce the emission from our planet. The prime minister emphasized that 60% of Norway’s total energy consumption comes through renewable energy.
Norway government is getting its revenue from taxes on oil production, so the government can afford to double the renewable energy research fund while other governments are struggling to pay their bills in the current economic crisis.
